Blog request

Coach kindly made a good article about what is chess?

The reason behind this request is as you know my grop @chesslectures. Most people are beginners and they think chess is a game of tricks, traps, luck. I tried my best to write an article about chess is a game based on strategy and there I wrote study plan fom beginners to 1600 level but I think if you make an article whenever u will find time in chessmood community then it will be like a boom for all beginners and they will listen your advice and give more value to it.

Even though I do study wiith WCM and I studied with my coach and I have a lot experience in how beginners and intermediate players make mistakes in their study but still rating matters. I am 1465, mmost people ignore my article even if I guide them right. They think hey man, you are 1465 , go learn first then teach. I think they are half right and half wrong. Half right is yes I need to learn a lot still but half wrong because they do not know my experience in the field of research. I done a lot analysis in past about how to improve in chess but issue is I done research late. It's because in past we had speed of 10kb/s.

Just hoping to help misguided beginners. I hope one day you will find time for article too.

Thanks for your support.

My first Scotch kill of the month  heheheh.

I win most of the time if anyone take on d4. Now with experience I understand that why this move is so so bad. So with the combination of chessmood's idea and my experience I crushed him like a melon.

Note- I use melon as cool way not as an insult.

Here is a game I played from the 6th Annual Gulf Coast New Year's Open played in Estero, Florida-USA. This game gave me a plus score for the tournament, first time that's happened in a while, with 2 wins, 2 draws, and 1 loss

The opening is the Smith-Morra Gambit, which has not been covered in our opening courses. I played Diego back in October and was prepared for his Sicilian counter. During post-game analysis of the October game, I discovered 3. Nf6 as an improvement over the 3. Nc6 I played in that game. A testament to post-game analysis, pre-game preparation (reviewed the games of players in the tournament I had previously played), and the value of a good database for research.

Hi.. all. I am Ratheesh, a chess enthusiast from India. my rating is FIDE1003 (i 've played only one tournament in my life). here I am posting one the games which I 've played in chess.com. I know that the game is not so good and have many mistakes. but I feel that I 've perfectly played the ending(B vs N) from an equal position.

Hello chess lovers! Giorgos Kechahias here and I have a very interesting game for ypu, played on lichess.org with a rapid 10+0 time control. I made only one inaccuracy in this game, but this innacuracy is not inaccuracy, because it was my decision to go for king's gambit, and especially bishop's gambit, which is a very sharp line. I hope my game will be an example for players who want to learn this opening. I am playing white. Sorry for not being able to upload the file.

she crushed me like a melon when i had black pieces and now when I got white pieces I crushed her like a melon with chessmood openings. I only remember ideas but still need to work on move orders and transpositions but still I think it's fun game to watch because I met her few years ago and that time she was WCM I think and was not super strong but now she is WFM and improved and I am still novice hehehe. Calculation?

I am able to do well in positional moves or quiet moves but I am nnot able to calculate branches of variations. I find candidates moves well. During I analise games I find candidates but can't calculate precisely. I am analising games from two books .

1.

Fundamental Chess: Logical Decision Making (doing alone)

2.

logical chess move by move by irving chernev (doing well with WCM Mary).

Any ideas?

I am also watching chessmood 3-4 games daily to grasp more ideas so positionally I am improving and also basic tactics are fine but have trouble in combinative vision.

I am 1465. Have few hrs daily because preparing for job too. But I am crazy about chess study.

Hey Abhi!
Tactic is easy to develop through puzzles.
Calculation - it's a very different story.
There are many books about it, but calculation it's a very hard topic, to explain in book.
There are so many calculation types.
That's why you struggle. The best way and the fastest is if you can find an individual coach, who has lots of examples in his database and can show you how to calculate right.

sir my another opponent was also gm he played 9...Na5 for that also how should i continue.

Replies

How is it that you are playing so many grandmasters, what is your rank and rating?

Hi Varun.
Who were your opponents? Please tell their names, the next time.
The game you have posted, I didn't get where engine shows an advantage for Black.
Instead of Rad1 you should go Qh4 right away, creating threats.

And don't believe engine blindly.
After 5 years engine will show totally different assessment, as now they do comparing to 5 years ago, which means many positions engines were evaluating wrong.

9...Na5 you can do same Nbd4 or even e5!? Check out the advanced course one more time and revise the ideas.
Practically it's very tough for Black.

Nc3!? e6 part 3

1.e4 c5 2.Nc3 e6 3.f4 Nc6 4.Nf3 Nf6

Sir here if i play Bb5 he can play Nd4 OR If i play g3 then he can play d5

So how should I continue this line?

Replies

Varun, Black has issues starting with this way. e5 is very interesting, and after Nd5, g3 with the idea after Nc3 to take dc3 and then Qe2. King goes to 0-0 or 0-0-0, you can keep it flexible.

A Problematic Move-Order against our Pirc/Modern Weapon

The following move-order poses some tricky problems if we also intend to use the recommended Grand-Prix Attack setup against the Modern Defence with 2...g6. I couldn't find a good way around this move-order so White may have to come up with an additional attacking scheme vs The Modern.

What say you ChessMood Team, all  suggestions/ideas/antidotes are very welcome:

Replies

You have transposed into Sicilian where we play Bb5.

Kevin, you are absolutely correct! A few days ago one of my students also noticed it.

Well, Grand Prix Setup is a very practical weapon against Pirc defense and modern Pirc and it works fantastic against 2400 below players.
But anyway, against Pirc, I'll show you how to play with Bf4 line, and then I'll show you also the problems of Modern Pirc, when white goes, Nf3,Bc4 and Qe2!
All the courses are coming.

Thanks for your patience and support.
Regards,
Avetik

I played a Rapid tournament game weeks ago and it happened to me too. I do not feel uncomfortable, since I studied that Bb5 line. It leads to equality if Black plays good, but it's a sicilian line, and few modern pirc players will know it. I saw that this quick 3...c5 it's recommended in the modern Tiger, so it's probably going to be played a lot anyway...

I also had issues yesterday with some gaps in the repertoire in a rapid tournament, I will adress those in a different thread.

Good to be back!

I know there is a ChessMood course on Crushing the Pirc but I havent time to look at it yet!

Actually, I have just started to play the Pirc/Modern  as Black against 1.e4 and I find it a refreshing alternative to playing the Sicilian and French (my main replies vs 1.e4 up to now). I fully feel it is good to know how to play every opening with both colours and so as well as learning it from the Black side I look forward to learning the White ide with the Chess Mood "Crush Pirc" repertoire!

So this has been an interesting post on Pirc! Thanks :-)

TV Concept: Rarely Discussed Topic in Chess

Hey Champions!

We have this topic in our Blog.

If you have any questions, comments or you just liked it, feel free to share your thoughts here.

Replies

Ha ha!

TV concept as mentioned in the midweek webinar (2000-2200?) and which I queried. I thought it stood for Tactical Vision? It may do?! It can be annoying when people stand in front of the TV & block your vision (or do the same in the cinema or theatre..).

Anyway I am pleased to have found the blog post that explains this concept well! Mamy thanks!

Right Mood Right Move..best wishes COGRO!

Hi GM Avetik,

The TV concept has helped me to get the initiative in the centre  especially in fianchetto variations. But I have still one question. When I am playing The king's indian defence with the black pieces: 1. d4 Nf6  2. c4 g6  3. Nc3 Bg7 4. e4 d6  5. Bd3 or Bd2 or Nf3  0-0 6. ... Is it better to open up my monster bishop on g7 by playing Nh5 with more active game viewing to a queenside advancement or Ne8, leading to closed position which require a lot of maneuvering, preparing Kh8, Nd7 and f5 advancemt? Nh5 is a bit dangerous I think because one wrong step and the knight gets trapped, also you have a demolished kingside and you have nearly to pile up all your pieces on F and G files. Waiting for your answers.

Scotch Question

Coach, after 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 ed 4. Nd4 Nf6 5. Nc6 bc6 6. e5 Nd5 7. c4 Bb4+

Is it better to block with Bd2 and let them exchange our DSB or block with Nd2 and then after Nf4 we play a3 and then Nf3 or something? I couldn't find it in the course, but I think playing Bd2 seems better.  What is your opinion?

Matt

Replies

Hey Matt!
Your questions are always good.
Very logical here is Bd2. Because after Bd2 we take Qd2 and then at some point Black should play d6 right? After that we'll take on d6, and put a big pressure on d6 pawn playing Rd1!
As you see Black misses a lot their bishop to protect that d6 pawn.
So after Bb4 we don't mind to change the bishops and put big positional pressure with d line.

Benko Question

Coach, maybe I'm missing it in the videos but I am trying to figure out how best to continue when the opening goes 1.d4 Nf6 2. c4 c5 3. d5 b5 4. Nf3... does black leave the tension and play d6/g6/Bg7 as usual and just try to transpose? I was looking on the lichess database and it seems like white scores very well in this move order, and I've ran into it several times now.

Thanks!

Matt

Hey Matt! 4...d6 is fine, keeping it flexible. You can go b4 as well, with idea d6,e5.

Delayed Alapin

e4 c5 Nf3 Nc6 c3 Nf6 Bd3.

My best friend who is WCM plays this setup as white. She call it delayed Alapin and white wants to play Bc2-d4.  Coach, can you suggest which line to choose?

d5 or g6 setup?

Replies

I played this line as black once and looked what was considered best, I like 4...e5 and only then go for d5, since 4...d5 seems premature...5. e5 Nfd7 6.Bb5 is a weird french, but not great for black.

In the line 4...e5 game can go like this 5 0-0 d5 6. exd5 Qxd5 with tempo and ideas of Bg4 or e4. If 5.Bc2 then 5...d5 and best for white seems 6.d3, and that can hardly be a problem...

4..e5 seems like a nice solution to me, I hope this helps!

Repertoire issues

I played  a Rapid tournament yesterday and I had the chance to test our Chessmood openings with quite a success, but I had a pair of sicilians that I do not think are in our repertoire, one being missing for a long time...

First game I was white and played 1.e4 c5 2.Nc3 d6 3.f4 Nf6 4.Nf3 and he played 4...e6, I think this is not anywhere, and the question is...where should I put my bishop? If Bc4, Nxe4 trick is an option, If Bb5, he simply plays Bd7. What am I missing?

And my complain comes from the line I had in a Sicilian game with black. Moves were 1. e4 c5 2. Nc3 Nc6 3.Bb5. It's the line recommended with white, but we do not have any video adressing it as black, since GM Gabuzyan course comes from the order 2...d6. What are the best lines after 3...Nd4 4.Bc4 and 4.Nf3??

Replies

4. Bb5+ is most often played; however, 4. Bc4 is playable. if 4...Nxe4, the ol' sac the N for the illusory fork trick 5. Bb5+ leaves the N on e4 embarrassed and hanging.

Hi Jordi,

You have to be a bit more flexible in your thinking, since even though the Grand-Prix Attack is a dangerous or as Avetik would say 'dangery' attacking weapon as outlined in the course, it does not mean it is the most effective setup against all lines. The game segment you mentioned  1.e4 c5 2.Nc3 d6 3.f4 Nf6 4.Nf3 e6 works fairly well against the Grand-Prix setup, but is less effective after 5.g3 transposing to a promising form of the Closed Sicilian where black has been tricked into a passive and theoretically inferior line. I posted a Kevin Spraggett game in another thread to illustrate model play in such positions.

I have briefly tried to address your second query in the below annotated pgn, I hope it helps:

Hey Jordi! Both of the issues are correct.
About Grand Prix Attack, when Black plays e6, I'll update the course.
The same is about when we meet Anti-Sicilian.

Colovic just came out with an antisicilian course on Chessable. I had a quick look and against nd4 bc4 he offers e6, nf6 and then usually a6 b5 or d5 depending on white move orders...haven't had a deep look though to compare with chessmood lines

Thanks to all for the answers. Kevin, I considered g3, but since I only remembered the Nh3 lines I thought I was going to be out of the book too soon, but it looks best to play g3, I saw the game of Spraggett.

The other line, I'm looking forward to see GM Avetik's solution, since I found it  complicated that retreat Carlsen did, we are underdeveloped, so I need to see how to handle that position.

Regards,

Jordi

Study Partner.

Hi myself abhishek yadav. You can call me Abhi. I am 1465 FIDE rated guy and hoping to find a good partner for playing chess and also an hr daily classical game study. Because sometimes my mind stuck to read books. I know GM Avetik's method and I also apply same ideas in study but problem is how to find plans is a big issue.

Let me show a position.

I spent 10 mins on this position and my main thought is to find a way to open centre with f6 but I do not saw the follow up well. White's king is in the centre so I need to punish him for that. Avetik sir said focus on classics. I got that but before any game lesson we have to analise game alone na and there I face issues.  I am doing fine against 2000 chess.com blitz and recently had nice victory against FM but who cares for blitz.

So,I hope I will find  a partner for study. But no beginner please.

I am not trying to insult anyone. I just need a player above my strength. Anyways my positional chess is better than tactical but I do not mind styles.

Thanks.

I know in these kind of positions we have three pawn advances and I love to play f6 but I do not see the follow up after exposing my own king.  I know white's bishop on f4 is bad right now and piece co oridination is bad too but I do not know how to open up centre and punish himm.

Hello Ahbi, I would like to be your partner (I am 1750 rated in bullet and 1650 in blitz), but I also like online classic (~1500). I don't have an official FIDE ELO but I try to find sparring partners. I have watched some of your online games which I found very interesting. Where are we going to play our first games? I am looking forward to your answer.

Courses down (edit/repair?)

I am looking back at the Starter course this morning, but was not able to proceed with one video with the message "Sorry This video will be available for viewing shortly". I look forward to it's swift return! ;-)
