Where to download pgn files?
I am still new here. I am starting the new courses on openings, and would like to access pgn files if they are available. (it was advertised as such). Can anyone point me to them please?
Thanks.
Replies
I am one step ahead of myself! I see that in the courses, the pgn is included after the presentation of the material. I guess the point is to ask us to work as we go, since this helps retain the information by having to write it down or enter it into a drilling program.
I plan on doing just that, and not cheat :)
you have to download chessbase. Probaly I have chessbase and when I download pgn files it automaticly goes to chessbase. If I could somehow help you plese like my reply so I can have some moodcoins. Thanks a lot.
Modern Maroczy Bind Mistake?
Hi, it was in the Modern Maroczy Bind section 6. Not sure if anyone mentioned it before, but in the line where Black chooses to play Ne6 after b4 in the main line, which then followed Rc1 a5 b5, Nb4 (mentioned in the video ) seems like a blunder as White can just play Ne1 and threaten a3. If Bxc3 then Rxc3 Nxa2 Ra3, where Black is losing a piece. Again not sure if anyone mentioned it but if not i hope that this is useful.
Ps: Please Correct me if i am wrong :P

Curious Fortress
Hi! Watching kings indian videos in the classical games section made me remember this game i played almost 2 years ago. Unexpectedly, my opponent sacrificed his queen and i thought it was an obvious mistake and I was going to win easily. But with every move I made, it became more difficult to find the right plan. Is there anything better that what i did? Of course i know that the last rook sacrifice is wrong, but I think the first one is correct if you want to push for a win.

Modern Pirc
Hey, champions!
As we have Grandmasters in our PRO Members team and people like Kevin D and Nicolo Passini who are experts in openings, I would love to hear your opinion about 1...g6 with Bg7.
With our Grandmasters team, already a long time we are analyzing different lines.
But still can't figure it out what is the line that is easy to learn and it gives White easy game or easy attack.
My intuition says, that I'll get now a long response from Kevin :)
And I'll be very glad and thankful.
I love that we have people like him.
People who learn, give good questions and at the same time help others in the forum.
Thanks in advance.
P.S I would love all of your thoughts, even if your rating is less than 2000 and you don't know much about this :)

Hi Avetik,
Thanks for reaching out, as I mentioned in a previous post the Modern with 1...g6, Bg7, d6 while delaying Nf6 is a very tricky and flexible opening, and it's easy for White to get confused in the labyrinth of possibilities that Black has. Ideally what we want as White is a universal setup that can be tailored against the entire family of Pirc, Modern systems, that is both effective and relatively straightforward for White to play. Before I continue I should confess that often many of the questions I pose on the forum are not necessarily for myself but what I think could be on the mind of some members. Now back on the topic of the Modern, I noticed that GM Anish Giri who is not only a very strong GM but also a renowned theoretician has been using the following move-order in most of his games including Blitz, Rapid & Classical, this suggests that he really believes in it:
1.e4 g6 2.d4 Bg7 3.Nf3 d6 4.Be3!? [I already indicated why I think the popular 4.Bc4 is overrated in another post]
The above moves look innocent enough, but now the most popular and widely recommended advice for Black is to transpose back to the regular Pirc with 4...Nf6 when after 5.Nc3 we reach the so called 150 Attack as it is dubbed in the U.K. The question then becomes how dangerous is the 150 Attack really, the answer is extremely lethal as there have been quite a few important discoveries in key lines that refute many Black recommendations presented in repertoire Books and DVD's. In fact I have been unable to find a completely satisfactory solution for Black if he enters the Pirc proper, and if he does not enter the Pirc the options don't look that appealing to me either. Ok I have done enough marketing now, and have already proven Avetik's intuition right with another long post. :-)
To conclude I would suggest you take a close look at Anish's games and his 2018 chess.com online blitz match with Mamedyarov where the pirc/modern featured in some of the games. Match Link here, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSsCy09Nyx4 take note of Giri's h4, h5 in game 1, this pawn sac is very poisonous and a recurring theme in White's setup, Shak Mamy is no bunny but is quickly routed in this game. Watch the entire match when you get the chance. Attached is one of my personal files based largely on Giri's ideas, with many improvements on existing theory given in the notes. I hope you find it both useful and inspiring.
Kevin, thanks for the long answer!
We were working a lot on Pirc, and we spend lots of time on Nf3,Be3 setup. The problem was when Black plays without Bg7.
But when Black starts with Modern Pirc with early Bg7, then Nf3 with Be3 becomes strong.
Kevin, have you seen the game Fressinet - Almasi?
And thank you for the link. I didn't see their match :)
I was almost starting to record a course when one of our coaches offers something incredibly strong against Modern Pirc.
Soon it will be added in the courses :)
Stay tuned.
Kevin, you are great! :)

Hey Champions!
I've recorded one more section, where I cover Black's 0-0-0 plan.
It's a very big variation, however, I recommend there a line for White which is very practical and strong at the same time. Bd3 with Qe2! The idea you will discover in the course.

When will the Bf4 part be uploaded
Ok.. I have taken a peek here after I lost in my own home cooked Pirc as white against a 1900 today.
I see the Grand Prix set up is recommended (my home preparation involved a flexible 150/Austrian attack opening setup as I felt best!?!).
I have to say I was a little surprised to see a Grand Prix setup vs Pirc, but I look forward to trying to learn it and trying it out! Right Move Right Mood...COGRO! :-)

Question About french bd3 with 11 gxf3 (advanced)
What is the best white can do after 11 gxf3-Nd5!
12Nxd5-Qxd5 13 0-0-0 Bd7 and maybe black is ok
Replies
Yes, looks very balanced - white has some play but must surely have few winning chances with those ugly pawns + black's B pair, and no attack seems likely which is why we accepted those doubled isolated pawns. Maybe Be7 is even better than Bd7 as a B on f6 is really powerful and takes away a purpose to Rg1.
The position is very unbalanced.
Yeah white has weak pawns, but Black's king is not safe.
For example if you play Kb1, and Black goes 0-0-0, then After Rd3 you start very strong attack.
How to beat the London System ?
How to beat the london system
Replies
Quite large question:)
In the course playing against d4 sidelines, after trompovsky, the 2nd section gonna be betaing London system :)
First, you have to understand that you can't expect to win straight from the opening (unless your opponent plays dubious). Your goal is to develop your pieces, castle and fight for the center. The real fight comes in the middlegame and maybe in the endgame.
Against the London System You can play the Grunfeld setup with d5, Nf6, g6, Bg7, b6, Bb7, c5, Nc6. It's pretty easy to learn and your plan is Qc8-Ba6, then advancee on the queenside.
The other setup I recommend (and i play) is 1. d4 d5 2. Bf4 Nf6 3. Nf3 e6 4. e3 Bd6
5. Bg3 O-O 6. Bd3 b6 then Bb7 and don't let White play e4.
Then there is 1. d4 d5 2. Bf4 c5 and if you play Nf6 (Benko which is recommended here, or any others) apart from d5 you can play 1. d4 Nf6 2. Bf4 c5 3. e3 Qb6 hitting b2.
Hope this helps and if you have questions email me or write here.
Puzzle Books
When we do chess puzzles in a book are we supposed to time ourselves and if we don’t solve the puzzle by that time look at the solution, or stay concentrated on that puzzle until we physically come up with the solution? What is the correct way? I myself always want to solve it myself without looking but many puzzles escape me.
Replies
I was thinking it was better to try and if you can’t solve it move to another and always return and try it again. Rather than looking up the answer trying to understand.
Follow Jacob Aagard's advice to always write down the solution with all variations on a piece of paper. After completing the book you can match your answer with the given answer and put some greater attention to the wrong answers at the end of the book. You should have a strict mindset while solving to be more concentrated. REMEMBER DOING 5 PUZZLE CORRECTLY IS BETTER THAN 100 PUZZLE CASUALLY.
1. e4 c5 2. Nc3 Nc6 3. Bb5 Nd4 4. Nf3 Nxf3!?
I played a Blitz today, my opponent played 1. e4 c5 2. Nc3 Nc6 3. Bb5 Nd4 4. Nf3 Nxf3!?
I followed the opening of Anti-Sicilian with Nc3!? Part 2 to play.
And we learned everything about knight take the bishop.
but how about Nxf3
Yes,black will not have bishop pairs, but our bishop on b5( a6 b5 is coming) and queen on f3 (block the f pawn and can't support d4)also not good.
I don't have clear plan after Nxf3.
I won by Qd1 then push d4 plan and played against isolated pawn in this blitz.
But Qd1 is not good move sure, we lose too much tempo.
Anyone have good idea about this line?

Suggestions on how to play the Sicilian Defense: Closed 3.Nf3
I am finding nearly all my games as black ending up in a closed Sicilian.

Something else I thought I'd get your thoughts on , I'm having to select little bits to concentrate on, as I'm finding learning these lines is taking a lot of time.
I've been wondering whether to learn to play one of the white lines as black and white, ie petroff defence, scotch , french.... I'd be interested what you thought of this, could potentially give me a deeper understanding of it , while reducing the number of courses I'd need to learn?
One observation is that for newer members , a learning plan would be useful :)
Hi Thomas Sanderson
I suggest that you after 1.e4 c5 2.Nc3 playes 2...Nc6. After 2...d6 white can play 3,Nf3 (or 3.Nge2) and 4.d4. Maybe black can play 3..e5, but it is a different structure than we normaly play. There are some lines in the game.
The opening repertoire can be used for the rest of your life, so don't worry that it will take some time to learn.
Maybe you can play through some of the pgn fast, so you can start blitzing the ChessMood opening repertoire. Read the artikel "Golden Method to Increase Online Rating in Chess" in the forum. It is a good artikel that will help you to learn the opening repertoire and make you a better chesspalyer.
