In over the board play I have a victory vs someone rated 2200.
In a simul, I have a victory vs our very own GM Gabuzyan. I also have a win on time in a simul vs Coach GM Avetik, but I was losing when he ran out of time (I did try to offer him a draw, but he didnt see it)
I also have a draw vs Yasser Sierawan in a simul
I have won 2 CMs in lichess Blitz Arenas. In classical I have drawn against a CM.
The best players I've beaten are rated around 2200, although it's not often that happens.
Took out two FMs one year at Hastings, and also a long while back had a win vs Cathy Forbes (WIM) on time. Titled players aren't invincible.

Chessmood Events
Hello All,
I have a few suggestions for Chessmood Events.
1. Streams: Can we have more SLP and WWP streams? In some of my games, I am unable to convert a winning position, especially if it's a complicated, tactical win. By the way, I also love those thematic opening tournaments and the common mistakes stream afterwards.
2. Special Events: Simuls only happen a few times a year and I missed today's one :( So if possible, could we have more simuls? I have already played Coach Avetik, Coach Gabuzyan, and Coach Samvel, but the thrill of playing a GM never leaves! If that's not possible, there are a few more events that happened in the summer which I loved. One-on-one games with Coach Avetik and Coach Gabuzyan were my favorite. Another good one was the Pro members Vote Chess vs Coach Avetik.
3. Courses: I have been watching the new courses and I absolutely love them! My favorites are "In Gabuzyan's Mind" and "Commented Classical Endgames". Keep up the good work!
Thank You

Myself, I'd like to see some longer streamed games with Chessmood openings. Perhaps 30 min games. The extra time can be used to discuss the middlegame positions, but also I think sometimes the opening whizzes through and a refresh on the theory or how to deal with something novel would be useful.
The 100 commented classical games course is really good, I bought that which is how I found Chessmood - if you need to understand positional chess better it's a great course - very much recommended for 1700-2000s that can fight well in dynamic positions, but are all at sea when it gets quiet. I'd also advise if you play e4 to look at the Scotch course. That's really good and I've been having really good results with it at blitz which I wasn't having with the Lopez. I'm looking forward to having lots of wins with it as soon as Covid ends and OTB chess restarts - look out opponents :)
Accelerated Dragon Question
In the following position from the accelerated dragon, does black just play Nxd4 cd4, Be6 and have a fairly equal game? Or am I misplaying this somehow? This is in the line with ...Qg5 and then white plays c3

Hey Matt!
Sorry, can't see the position.
Can you add a PGN file, screenshot or give the link of the video?
Best plan against sicilian : 1. e4-c5, 2.Nc3-e6, 3.f4-Ne7, 4Nf3-Nc6
Best plan against sicilian : 1. e4-c5, 2.Nc3-e6, 3.f4-Ne7, 4Nf3-Nc6
I think we can choose to play with g3... because I don't know where to put the light square bishop of white!
Replies
There are some games in the database played with 5.g3. It looks pretty solid for Black. For example, one possible continuation:
5.g3 d5 6.d3 g6 7. Bg2 Bg7 8.O-O O-O 9.e5 Rb8
Black seem perfectly fine here.
Well, all the suggestions are nice!
I would play 4.g3 against the strange 3...Nge7.
Why g3 first - to keep the Nh3 option.
Question about Pawn Endgames course - video number 34
Hello everybody!
This may be a silly question, but I'm a bit confused about this, in the attached position, black to move.. the video says at 1:42, "black is keeping the distant opposition and plays Kd7". I understand the idea in the video, but my question is this: at this point, isn't white who actually has the distant opposition? (since it's black to move). I'm not trying to nick-pick the video at all, just trying to see if my understanding is correct. I've been watching the previous section on distant opposition again, but I feel I get the same idea.
Thanks!
Replies
That's why we call it distant opposition, if the kings were on e5 and e7 then if black moves the king it will be lost, because you're losing the opposition, but now we have a distance and if white wants to win they need to bring the king forward, so we have to take control of this, when white plays Kd4 we have to meet with Kd6, if white plays Ke4 we have to meet with Ke6 after which black takes the opposition and the position is gonna be draw. After 1...Kd7 if white plays 2.Kd3 we have to play Ke7 and keep the distance. we are waiting opponent to bring the king forward then we are taking the opposition.
You are right. White has the distant opposition. But it's worthless because it cannot be transformed into the regular opposition.
Well, maybe both are keeping the "COVID" distance? :D :D
Interesting Rook and Pawns Ending
I have played a long 45m+45s game today with White, Rossolimo that came out of Closed Sicilian.
The above position happened when we had both approximately 3min time left:

My opponent offered a draw. I didn't accept and played a tricky move 1.b4!? instead. My opponent run out of time. Surprised, I asked "What happened?"
His PC blocked and was not able to move. Later we discussed what we would have played.
1...axb4?! 2.Rxc5 Ra3?! 3.a5 b3? Both axb4 and Ra3 are not the best moves, but only after final b3 Black is lost.
4.Rb5! Kd7 5.Kb7? Now it is a draw again.
Can you figure it out why the final position is a draw and what should have been played instead of 5.Kb7.
Rossolimo with Nc3 and c4
I played 30m+30s game today. Rossolimo with Black. In the Nc3 line I played the c4 move recommended by the ChessMood. My oponent played h3 and after cxd3 cxd3. Afterwards, I struggled to find a right plan for black.
My oponent got out of opening better (I missed b4 move) and I was blocked on the King side and depressed on the Queen side. Luckily he launched prematurely a King's side attack, and I was able to get out of troubles and in the end I won the game.
My question is, "What plan would you choose after 8.cxd3?" Perhaps there is a better plan then 6...c4. My enegine actually gives ?! to the c4 move.
In general I find Rossolimo not to be an easy opening for Black. Space is limited and if you don't position your pieces correctly, you can easily be stuck as it happened in my game.
Replies
In general I think you played very nice game, maybe some small mistakes, but I liked the way that you played.
Plans after cxd3 which I feel. I may be wrong but I am just sharing what my thought process is saying. Rest coach @GM_Avetik_Grigoryan will answer well!
I feel like you have ideas such as exert pressure on the backward d3 pawn with heavy pieces. You also have bishop pair so i don't mind if white open up the game it will favour me. If possible cement a knight on d4 and kill him on the dark squares. I feel like white's dark squares are so weak so you can target them. I also feel like f4 is also weak square so you can play something like Nf6- Nh5 Be5 and dominate those dark squares. You can also include g5 somehow to exert pressure on dark squares.
This is what I feel.
About issue in Rosolimmo. I just wanna say may be you are new in this opening like I am but I never ever faced any issue facing Bb5. I feel so comf even in main lines so I think you just need more practice so you will start feeling the positions well and then you will be alright!
Robert after 8.cd3 I think you have a wonderful position!
Free two bishops advantage and also White might get problems with d3 pawn.
It looks very logical to think about plan, or even a move right now like 8...c5! and then at some point b6,Ba6, putting pressure on opponent's pawn on the.
Maybe even c5 and then e5! so White's d3 pawn will be there forever weakness.
Sicilian 2. Nc3-a6, 6... a6,
Hello guys, here is my question regarding the Sicilian 2... d6.
After the normal moves and white playing 6. Bc4., black plays 6... a6.
Now the problem is that if we do a normal move such as a4, black can play the normal line Nf6, 0-0 etc with the difference that once we get to the position when they play 8... Nd4 we cannot go to the interestin line 9. Nxd4 cxd4, 10. Nb5 because the pawn on a6 covers that line.

WHat should we try instead?

Hey Pablo!
This question was asked before and also we covered during the streams and webinars.
Most probably you joined ChessMood after that, so no worries.
The key of playing against a6 moves in GP, is to ignore it!
Just to play d3, 0-0 and f5.
If Black plays b5 just Bb3. Black loses a very important tempo with a6, and then it's tough for them to save the kingside.
Opening Doubt
Recently I am facing Stonewall setup from white that is they are playing d4-e3-f4-c3 and playing like a normal stonewall positions. I tried g6-Bg7- 0-0 and trying for e5 Break but I was failed.
What is the best way to React.
Replies
I play that setup too but never faced issue. I think researching on that move orders will be helpful
Here is one of my OTB games against white stone-wall setup.
I should have played 6...Qe7 with a slightly better position for Black.
Nevertheless I managed to get decent out from the opening and go advantage in the middle game. The advantage slipped away in the ending because I was in time trouble. So it was a draw finally.
Avi, while against 1.d4 stonewall is a very solid setup, against 1.Nf3 is not.
The main reason, is that White can play d3 e4 in the future.
The same is here. You play somewhere d6 e5.
You never worry about losing a pawn, as always you have Nf6-g4 move.
Robert's game was a good one, just I would delay with ef4 move.
Your fav chess openings before ChessMood??
I know chessmood openings are best for below 2500 players but apart from chessmood openings what you liked the most?
For me:
As White:
I loved alapin variations so much against Sicilians because I found no useful content on open sicilians so I was tired of losing with open sicilians so I chose solid approach with alapin..
I loved Ruy Lopez and Italian game too.
Against french I loved Nd2 because of amazing Karpov's game against Mestel.
Against d6 I had no prep.
Against Scandi I had no prep.
Against Alekhine I had no prep.
Against c6 I always played Caro Exchange Variation!
As Black:
Against e4 I played many openings such as french, sicilian accelerated dragon and czech pirc.
Against d4 I also loved d6 and stonewall dutch and Benko Gambit.
Against c4 and Nf3 I had no prep.
Replies
With white: against 1. e4 e5 I played the Italian. Note: Somerimes I was daring enough to go for King's gambit before reaching 1600.
Against Carro Kan I played 2 knights variation or Panov Bottvinik attack.
Against Sicilian I played the mainline with 2. Nf3 and I have to say that although I wasn't very good in the opening, I have played a lot of attacking games in the Sicilian.
Against modern I played with a e4-d4-c4 pawn centre.
Against others I had no prep.
With black: Against 1. e4 I played Sicilian with d6, Schevenningen or Taimanov variations. Even dragon when I played blitz.
Against 1. d4 I played the King's Indian defence, which is the only opening I have maintained highly and is my 2nd weapon against d4. I also played semi-Tarasch.
Against the English I played symmetrical variation with fianchetto of the king's bishop.
Against others I had no prep.
I love Catalan and QGD exchange variation with white. With black, I played slav before Chessmood
I love kings indian attack for white
and
i love sicilian najdrof for black
Your fav. Chess Endgame Studies?
In this post you can share an endgame studies which you loved the most !!!
Replies
My favorite study is a composition by A. Wotawa. I don't have the PGN but here are the starting positions of the pieces:
White: Ke3, Ba7, Nf1, d2, f2, g2, g4
Black: Kh4, a3, d3, d5, d6, e5, g5, g7
It's a really beautiful one.
Closed Sicilian with Nc6, e6 and a6 setup
I played a game today 30m+30s. My opponent choose quite unusual setup.
1.e4 c5 2.Nc3 Nc6 3.Bb5 Nd4 4.Nf3 Nxb5 5. Nxb5 a6 6.Nc3 e6 7.d4 cxd4 8.Qxd4 Ne7
I played 10.Bf4 Nc6 11.Qd2 and achieved a bit better position.
At this moment my computer prefers prefers 11.Qd3 (+0.36) or 11.Qe3 (+0.32) before 11.Qd2 (+0.16). I will let it run overnight to analyze further.
Now the question is, how would one describe differences between these three moves? They look more or less the same.
Replies
If you prefer a tactical question instead of a positional, then in the line 11.Qd3 in another game players reached the following position. It' s White to move. What would you play?
Trompowsky 3. h4 vs Torre 4. h4
With the Trompowsky (not a suggested line in the course) after 2... Ne4 White can play the tricky 3. h4 hoping to open the h-file if Black takes. c5 is one of the main lines. There are lots of games.
However, in the Torre (or as in the course if White decides to play Nf3 instead of capture), after 3... Ne4 4. h4 hardly figures as a move and c5 is doing really well against what little games there are.
Why the big difference? Only thing I can think of is in lines with h4, Nf3 is delayed so if Black castles short then after e3/e4 Qh5 comes with a mating attack.

Quiet People
I found that people in this community are super quiet. I wanna know why? Are you guys super intelligent or you guys have nothing to ask or you guys like to hide what you already know.
I am not trying to insult anyone, I just wanna know why people have no interesting in sharing what they know and what they study. Even GMs are hding themselves like if anyone find that they are from chessmood then other gms can prepare for them.
This make me sad when I see only one or 2 new topics in forums and except opening people don't like to ask anything, Not even chess position but all they like to do is quiet.
Sorry, If I annoyed anyone, I just feel frustrated when I ssee people are quiet. But yeah it's their life and their choices. I don't blame anyone but I just like active people.
Chessmood gave us so much so I love to share everything which I learn daily
I decided not to post any new topic and I decided not to answer any post.
TC good bye

Quiet isn't necessarily a bad thing. All forums have their busy and quiet phases. I'd rather see a few interesting posts, that provide value to someone, than lots of irrelevant ones, or worse incorrect information. Look at chess.com for example. I asked a question there and expected people to answer the specific question only if they had real input and to post their rating (I asked) so I knew roughly how much to take from their answer. I ended up with one decent reply and two pages of useless replies as if people need to say something even if it's not helpful. It's meant to be a useful tool, not boredom relief.
The primary function of the forum should be a communication between users and ChessMood, for questions and feedback when they have them. Obviously the ChessMood team are really busy so perhaps only get to read through posts once or twice a week which might put some people off. I'd rather have fantastic content (as there is); for non-ChessMood specific questions there are plenty of other places to ask if answers don't appear here. As for other people, as well as busy enjoying the content here, they have jobs and school to attend to, so maybe don't have the time to post lots of updates.
The best method I've found is lead by example. If you want to post content that you've discovered others might want to know or feedback on feel free. Others might also then chip in something when they get time or if they discover something. It's shouldn't be an expectation though, nor something you should be getting frustrated over.
Perhaps people only want to discuss chess. If I look now on the 1st page of the forum 9 topics are basically not chess related.
Secondly forums as a means of communication are kind of dead. I play poker for a living and the biggest forum for poker is perhaps a 10th of the size compared to say 5 years ago. All the players have private facebook/Skype/discord groups etc.
Real Time interaction is more valuable for a lot of people.
Or perhaps people like to just lurk and not post. Its fine either way and I would not get too hung up on it if you already met good people via chessmood.
don't be disappointed with that Abhi, I like your posts and even I've learned somethings from them. So I got very sad reading this
A question for you as I'm a little curious. Is it what you write literally about little interaction that is bothering you so much to write such an emotive post, or is there something else?
Just sometimes there is that's all. No worries if there isn't or its not something you want to share.
I am sorry to hear that. Remember that I answer to your posts quite often. I hope you will change your mind ... anyway good luck.
Haha, I just want to say I admire your obvious passion and dedication for chess. Even if I don't reply to your posts, sometimes I have hit the thumbs-up button
I know after reading all my reply some may call me arrogant in their mind or some may say I am idiot or whatever. But I seriously do not care anymore. I respect what coach done for me and that's why I will share chessmood everywhere because because of coach i am alive in chess. So, salute to him but no salute to quiet people, no salute to those who hide themselves , no salute to those who just wanna sit like anonymous .
Goodbye to my wonderful forums.

Pirc tourney
So this Saturday, the pirc features. I've already planned ahead and completed the base course.
Is the Czech Pirc fair game as Black, or will we be asked not to play that?
Also what's the current state of affairs of the GP line vs Bf4 - has one become a clear preference since the course was recorded? I'm also guessing that if Bf4 is played there will be need to study some of the advanced material as the main course doesn't cover too much.
Replies
I also would like to know what will be the starting position for the Pirc.
I asked this directly.
If White plays in a way that means the Czech Pirc is playable, then yes it's allowed.
Not only Chess
What if I post here questions or some interesting, motivating quotes not only about chess and try to create an interesting discussion area? Or you want to see only chess and nothing else as this is a chess forum.
Waiting for your answers :)
Replies
The only problem is if it descends into general chat (not helping chess or one's ability to improve in some way) then it might be harder to find the chess topics. If the forum could be grouped for example, chessmood courses, chessmood events, help, general discussions then I think that would be better.
Well, I decided that I will not post any answer in any chessmood topic. People just like to stay quiet. So I give up posting, I will only post in my daily chess update post.
Games from Tournaments related to ChessMood Openings
Hi,
I will post here games from tournaments that have been played recently and relate to the ChessMood openings. If wish to post here then please wait until the tournament has finished or at least after a phase of the tournament has completed, like preliminaries.
