"ChessMood openings are very cool! Recently I checked and found that 80% of the time I had a winning position out of the opening. Also, I have raised +600 Fide rating and +450 online points since joining ChessMood."  - Prin Laohawirapap, Thailand

‘How do I start the game with the White pieces?’
‘Which openings should I play?’

If you’re just learning chess, these are the 2 questions about openings you’ll most likely have.

And while choosing, you want openings that are sound, easy to learn, grow your chess skills and also allow you to have fun! ...

That’s exactly how this chess opening repertoire for White is designed. You’ll learn openings that are solid, aggressive and full of life which were used by the world's greatest chess players like Fischer and Kasparov.

At the same time, you don't have to memorize a lot of opening theory here.

Our Grandmaster team has simplified the openings and presented only what's most essential for anyone to start playing them.

Once you finish, you’ll find dedicated courses on our website that dive deep into each opening you’re about to learn here.

But for now, let’s focus on building a foundation and having fun!

And because this course is designed for players with up to 2000 online rating, there’s very little theory to remember!

Ready to go?

Let’s begin!

What you'll learn

  • Full of life openings which the world’s greatest chess players like Fischer and Kasparov used during their prime.
  • Why you should start the game with 1.e4! GM Avetik shares an interesting piece of a conversation he had with one of the top-10 GMs in the world on this.
  • The first moves, plans and ideas of the opening that’s deep enough to give you a decent understanding to start playing it.
  • A simplified version of ChessMood openings with White pieces.
  • How to beat dubious lines like Stafford Gambit, Elephant Gambit without memorizing too many moves?
  • What's the ideal setup you should be aiming for in the opening?
  • The mindset and the setup you need to deal against the rubbish first-moves of Black and much more.

I've just finished section 9 and I have to say this course is absolutely fantastic. I've been playing 1.d4 for the last 20 years and always thought about changing to 1.e4 but didn't know where to start. This course has gave me the knowledge and confidence to finally change to to 1.e4. Thanks
admin image
GM_Avetik Grigoryan
Great! Thank you, very much, James! I am happy you could make an easy transition to 1.e4!

This was an awesome course! I used to play scotch, but then I changed to London system, and then I decided to switch back to scotch! This course really helped me- I have more knowledge about scotch now than the first time I played scotch! I really wish I knew about chessmood when I first played it… I would probably be a master in scotch by now!

Hehe :) It's never late :) Thanks, Danielle!

After many years of never opening with e4, for fear of too many black responses to remember, following my study of the WhiteMood Openings course, I now play it all the time and my games are just so much more interesting. In GM Avetik we trust, and, with some trepidation, in a recent league game, I even played the Knight sacrifice recommended in the Petroff - and won in 13 moves. Thank you for another great course.

Thank you. I enjoyed your course, and I'll rewatch it although I'll not completely use it. My son played your openings with 7/9 performance on state championship for his school - they took the second place. You also encouraged me to record my opening repertoire: https://www.youtube.com/@chesspuzzleslive9129

Another great course with clear plans to follow which is really helpful. Much more confident about what to do when it's not a main line. A bit uncertain about playing the main Petroff line given, though, but no-one's played that against me yet!

In the Scotch Game section video 12. How to punish 4...d5 it says you can either take on d5 or Nxc6. But in the quiz it says the only correct answer is Nxc6. Am I missing something?

No, no, it might be our bad. Will check and fix. Thanks for informing.

Great course!! I can't praise you guys enough!! I am having a problem with the Cochrane Gambit though. I'm low rated and my opponents are equally low rated(1200-1300) but the majority seem to know to play 5... c5! against me. I'm going to have to abandon it and study the more advanced Petrov as White course.
admin image
GM_Avetik Grigoryan
Thank you, Daniel! Thats very interesting. Because based on the statistics we have, few plays c5 on this level... An alternative can be to start with 5.Nc3!? and if c5, then 6.Bc4! Or yeah, you can check out main course :) Best of luck, and thanks again!
Daniel Krivoy
Daniel Krivoy
Thanks for getting back to me! I don't have many games to go by because few play the Petrov against me. I'm going to try your alternative move order and see how it goes. A big Thank You to you and everyone else at ChessMood!!

Amazing course!!! I win a lot of games right away from the opening. One question: what to play against 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4! exd4 4. Nxd4 Bb4+ (Malaniuk Variation)?
admin image
GM_Avetik Grigoryan
Hey Zach! Bb4 is covered in the main Caro Kan course. Check here: https://chessmood.com/course/caro-kann-defence

Could you please have all chapters quiz collated under Epilogue section just like in blackmood openings? Its easy to revise whole course quickly that way.

The way every line is explained is probably the best immaginabile, only two things about the Attacking with Scotch course: - the line suggested in the chapter 5. "Tricky moves 4...Qh4 and 4...Qf6" at the minute 5:10 wastes all the White advantage because Black can respond with Qxg2 - there are some critical moments in winning positions (for example near a forced mate combination) where the analysis cover almost but not all the possible Black's attempts to escape (at the end of section 1, chapter 3 the move Rxe6 is mentioned as not possible for the opponent at minute 11:25, where White can continue with Qg6+, but not the minute later when Qg6+ isn't an option anymore and maybe worth another clarification. However i give 5 stars because as explained multiple times by the authors, the key is understanding and not memorizing, so the paradox is that, after finding the wrong move in the Steinitz variation, now it's pratically impossible for me to blunder in that position, even less that after a right analysis.

Sir in Scotch what if they play e4 e5 Nf3 Nc6 d4 ed4 Nd4 Nf6 Nc3 Bb4

This is crazy! I have been playing online and losing to 1500 hundred players on 5 min blitz on lichess. I then tried 1700 computer stockfish in 5 mins blitz and lost twice straight. I watched the Grand Prix attack ONCE against sicilian. And I WON IN 15 moves!!!!! what black magic sorcery is this? Thank you GM Avetik!

The Beauty of this course is that it explains and ties in the opening principles with the repertoire that GM Avetik wants to imbibe within his students. It's that "middle phase, or next step" in which we blend principles and use that to create functional opening repertoires. Most content is either purely principle or purely theory. In this course, I have increased my understanding a lot and I'm pretty sure it was the "missing link" in my opening studies when I felt videos were too basic or too advanced.

Hi Chessmood family, I lost in Scandinavian opening twice in OTB by playing Nc3 recently in lower rated opponent. I tried the chess opening what I had learned in white mood openings. Even I missed the h3 but my opponent resigned just in 9 moves. I noticed my oppomemt struggled in my chess opening.https://www.chess.com/analysis/game/live/38931541719. Even against French def or caro-kann they are surpised in my opening. Thank you GM Avetik and Chess Mood family..
